All About The New Pacifica
For about half a decade now, the Chrysler Pacifica has forged a reputation as a mini van that has largely escaped the “uncool” stereotype of its class. The Pacifica has always embraced a sleek, streamlined look to appeal to a wider range of buyers, and the 2021 entry has been upgraded with a larger grille, a broader front fascia, and more attractive headlights. In addition, the mini van gains more standard tech features to make it a vehicle worth considering. The 2021 Pacifica is split into the following trim levels:
TOURING: With a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque and is pinned to a nine-speed automatic transmission, the Pacifica is a capable accelerator. The standard front-wheel drivetrain helps yield a peak fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, it is worth noting that Chrysler now offers the option of all-wheel drive, which improves performance on road compromised by rain, snow, or ice. (Regardless of configuration, this van can tow up to 3,600 lbs.) At the base Touring trim level, expect three rows of cloth-trimmed seats to accommodate up to seven people. The front includes eight-way power on the driver’s side. The second- and third-row seats have Stow ‘n Go technology, which means they can be folded into the floor to maximize cargo space. Stow ‘n Go also refers to the easy-to-access in-floor bins when the seats are upright. For infotainment, the van relies on the Uconnect infotainment system, which features a huge, 10.1-inch touchscreen for sharp displays, clearly organized menus, and quick responses to inputs. Uconnect combines the following elements:
• Six-speaker AM/FM stereo system
• SiriusXM Radio trial subscription
• Wireless
Apple CarPlay smartphone integration (still a rarity in the automotive market)
• Android Auto smartphone integration
• USB port for hooking mobile devices
• Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming
Active noise cancellation technology keeps the cabin—which can be securely accessed using the remote keyless entry system—quiet and peaceful. A tri-zone automatic climate control system enables occupants in the front and the second row adjust their heating and cooling preferences. For driver safety aid, the vehicle includes the following features:
• Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology
• Automatic high beams
• Forward collision warning
• Automatic emergency braking
• Rearview camera with rear parking sensors
• Blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert
• Lane keep assist
• Lane departure warning
For crash protection, the Touring provides two frontal impact airbags, two side impact airbags, and side curtains that flank the three rows of seats.
TOURING L: The Touring is essentially a more luxurious version of the Touring. As a result, it enhances the driving and seating accommodations with perforated leather seating surfaces, front-seat heating, a memory system for the driver’s side, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
LIMITED: While the Touring and Touring L provide the choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain configurations, the Limited is strictly an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The front seats get cooling ability in addition to the heating, and the second row gains heating ability. All three rows are dressed in Nappa leather seat upholstery, with the front passenger seat getting eight-way power and the third row getting power-folding ability. The Limited makes entering and exiting easier with the doors gaining hands-free power sliding. Stow ‘n Vac is introduced at this trim level for vacuuming the interior, and a tri-pane panoramic sunroof provides air and light when needed. For infotainment, the Uconnect is upgraded with HD Radio tuning and a 13-speaker Alpine stereo system.
PINNACLE: Also an all-wheel-drive vehicle like the Limited, the aptly named Pinnacle comes with features that cannot be found on the other three trim levels. It comes with “FamCAM” camera technology, which shows the driver the rear-facing seats and their occupants via the touchscreen as a monitoring tool. The camera itself is transformed with a surround view, front parking sensors that join the rear parking ones, and a park assist system. The interior in general is the Pacifica at its luxurious peak—thanks to the quilted caramel-finished Nappa leather-trimmed seats with second-row lumbar support pillows, Berber carpeting, a suede headliner, and satin chrome accents. Uconnect gets a major boost with an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a navigation system, and a rear-seat entertainment system in the second row that includes dual 10.1-inch touchscreen Blu-ray and DVD player.
